The Belmont University men’s soccer team is 4-5 as they bring the first part of their season to a close.
“September is a time for learning about each other, especially for the new guys,” head coach Earle Davidson said.
The Bruins have played all non-conference games this month the team has high hopes for the season.
“We have a lot of important contributions from a lot of guys. [The team] responded great this weekend by playing tough, smart soccer,” Davidson said after Belmont won the Mafiaoza’s Invitational by beating Centenary and Gardner-Webb.
The squad is young and only has 4 seniors, but Davidson remains confident.
“TJ Brown and Bradley Shuck have really stepped up in the back,” Davidson said. Another key player in the defense is junior
goalkeeper Juho Illi who has already recorded 39 saves this season.
Leading the Bruins’ offense are Brandon Tarr, Diego Figueroa, Brett Parker and Dan Meacock.
“We’re excited to get back in the A-Sun Conference Tournament, get a better record, and just go from there,” said junior midfielder Edgardo Padilla. “We came in prepared, fit and strong and that gave us a huge advantage. [Now] we’re working on playing our game.”
As the Bruins enter October, the challenge of Atlantic Sun games awaits.
“Conference games are what we are preparing for and we’re on our way,” Davidson said. “[Ultimately] getting to the conference tournament is our goal. We want to make some noise in the conference tournament.”
