The Belmont Bruins will move to the Ohio Valley Conference starting in the 2012-2013 season, according to a source within the athletics department.
The OVC released an official statement on their website welcoming Belmont to the conference, but took the statement down minutes later.
The Bruins will be moving to the OVC from the Atlantic Sun Conference, where they have been a member for 10 seasons. Belmont will play one more season in the conference before the move to the OVC. A senior Atlantic Sun official declined to comment on the situation.
Every Belmont team except men’s soccer will be played in the OVC, currently an 11-team conference with teams from Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama, Missouri, and Illinois. Belmont will be the only private school in the conference.
The athletics department is holding a press conference in the Vince Gill Room today at 1 p.m. to announce the move.
