The Belmont University School of Music and Nashville Public Television will come together to produce Christmas at Belmont, a PBS-taped Christmas performance at 7 p.m. on December 5 at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center.
This year’s host is Kentucky native and Tony Award-nominated, Laura Bell Bundy, best known for her Broadway performance as Elle Woods in “Legally Blonde.”
Christmas at Belmont has been a Nashville tradition for more than 20 years. Every other year, the concert is taped and broadcast on PBS and runs for two years. When the concert is not taped, the performance takes place in the Massey Concert Hall on Belmont’s campus.
“From classical to bluegrass to musical theatre to jazz to country…there’s something for everyone in this large-scale festive performance!” director of PR and Development for the College of Visual and Performing Arts Sarah Davis said.
Performers include the Belmont University Symphony Orchestra, Belmont Chorale, the percussion ensemble, musical theatre, the jazz and bluegrass ensemble, and a large choir. Pieces will include Christmas tunes such as “The First Noel,” “God Rest Ye, Merry Gentleman,” “Carol of the Bells,” and “We Need a Little Christmas.”
Belmont students, faculty and staff are able to request for tickets for the dress rehearsal at 3 p.m. on December 5 by clicking on the Christmas at Belmont link on the university’s homepage.

Some years ago the Christmas at Belmont program featured a piece for SATB or mixed chorus with percussion. The singers were swaying/moving to the music as they sang. I believe it was a former faculty member who arranged or wrote the piece. I am planning my chorus’s Fall/Holiday concert and would like to know the name of the work. Thank you…JK
Will PBS be airing a replay of Christmas at Belmont in 2012? If so, any idea when? I can’t find any information about the program this year.
I count watching “Christmas at Belmont,” as one of the top 10 musical experiences of my life. I saw it live once years back, and have missed only one PBS replay since.
Would appreciate your help. Thanks.
Ms. Barlar,
I believe the rerun will be shown on Dec. 21. Check your local tv listings for times.
Ms. Kulesza,
I don’t personally recall the specific song you are talking about, so unfortunately I cannot help you. Sorry for the inconvenience. Contacting someone in the Belmont School of Music might be able to help you out.
