After a 27-7 regular season and an Atlantic Sun championship, the No. 14 seeded Belmont Bruins went to Nationwide Arena looking to defeat a Georgetown Hoyas team that defeated them in the NCAA Round of 64 in 2007.

While a number of Belmont fans made it to Nationwide Arena in Columbus, hundreds of students and alumni cheered the Bruins on from the Curb Event Center.

The No. 3 seed Georgetown Hoyas took control of the game early, despite two early Belmont leads. Solid Georgetown defense and a 10-3 Hoya run put the Bruins in a hole they never climbed out from.

That comeback never happened for the Bruins, who were outscored 38-32 in the second half. Georgetown made 61 percent of their baskets during the game, including 41 percent of their 3-pointers. Belmont made 39 and 37 percent of their respective shots during the game.

Despite 17 points from Blake Jenkins and 12 points from Ian Clark, the Bruins’ deficit never got smaller than nine points in the final minutes. The Hoyas went on a late 12-5 run, giving them an eventual 74-59 win and a trip to the Round of 32 Sunday.
