Freshmen charged with pot possession

Two Belmont freshmen were arrested for possession of just under 2 ounces of marijuana late Sunday night, according to Metro Police.

Adam Fisher and Brian Frueh, both 18-year-olds from Colorado, were detained after a resident assistant at Maddox Hall smelled the “strong odor of marijuana coming down the hall” and notified two resident directors who then keyed into the dorm, according to police affidavits.

Metro officers were called to the scene after a small amount of marijuana was found in plain sight on a desk. The suspects informed Belmont officials that a thermos contained the rest of the 55.9 grams they had.

Fisher reportedly told the arresting officers that the marijuana was for personal use only.

Both Fisher and Frueh were charged with possession with intent to sell/deliver/manufacture, a felony offense and were released on bond. Their court appearance has been set for Sept. 4.

  1. Felony charges for less than 2oz of pot? That seems pretty extreme. Not their fault they are used to living in a state that has much more realistic marijuana laws.

  2. Seen this type of thing before! Say goodbye to belmont! There’s a strict Christian policy of “no forgiveness” for severe offences like pot possession.

  3. It’s not about “no forgiveness” there have been many offenses of students at Belmont “forgiven”. Forgiveness doesn’t wipe away consequences. There is a policy against such an offense and they knew that before coming. When ANY of us break the rules or the law, there are consequences. Parents aren’t paying for an education at Belmont to have known drug dealers on campus. We all choose to either learn from our mistakes or continue on the same path and reap more hardship. It’s call taking ownership for our choices. Hopefully this will be a wakeup call and they will put their efforts into getting an education to further a career with positive goals.

  4. What’s the point in publishing the names and photos of these two young men in this article? As if this situation isn’t embarrassing and painful enough for these two young men and their families, the Vision went a step further in ruining their identities in a very public manner. I hoped that the Vision might have enough respect and decency to leave those details out.

  5. “Sell / distribute/manufacture” less than 2ounces. Isn’t this a colossal jump? The school is going way overboard. Printing the photos was an insult to any Christian ideals. What was the school thinking.

  6. The school didn’t publish this, as the student newspaper is not run by the University. Also the names were made of public record due to Metro Police Department making the arrest and records public. It was on the 6 o’clock news and available in the public domain.

Belmont does have a policy regarding the zero tolerance of illegal substances and I appreciate that fact. I hope this assists students in understanding this is a learning environment where we encourage students to respect the University they chose to attend and live within the policies.

  7. Honestly, it is normal for a publication to publish the names of the offending parties. Read your local paper… this is no different. Plus, honestly… the students broke the rules. Don’t attend a school that has those rules in place if you are going to be unsmart and smoke in your dorm/ leave it on your desk! People’s ignorance amazes me.

  8. Does it matter says:

I can’t stand the fact that even though Fisher reported it was for personal use only, the two were charged with intent to sell/deliver/manufacture. They should have been caught and disciplined just as they were, but for 2oz being charged with something other than just having it? That doesn’t seem quite right.
