CEMB showcase season kicks off with special 125th anniversary Battle of the Bands

Battle of the Bands 2015

The Curb College of Entertainment and Music Business’s 2015 showcase series kicked off with a special 125th anniversary Battle of the Bands Saturday afternoon.

The musical competition’s acts ran the gamut of genre and style, from the country twang of Emma Place to the funky, soulful tones of the night’s winner, Mocha. As a celebration of the university’s 125th anniversary, six student bands– including Constellations, Brave Town, Nodaway and Better Eyes– were selected to compete in addition to three special alumni bands.

Each act was judged by a panel of musical professionals, most of whom were from Musician’s Corner, a program affiliated with The Conservancy for the Parthenon and Centennial Park. The program partnered with Belmont for the event and was responsible for choosing the bands that performed and the night’s winner.

Mocha will be headlining at a Musician’s Corner festival event next year as a reward for their victory. This year, however, Musician’s Corner will launch their fall series of music festivals starting Sept. 5.

Students and visitors filled the newly refurbished lawn not only to see the extended show, but to partake in other festivities, including face painting, balloon animals, food trucks and performances from alumni bands Steve Moakley, COIN and Kopecky, emceed by Belmont alumni Cameron Bryant.
