UPDATE: Suspect identified in rape, kidnapping

Jason Jarrell Williams, 31, has been identified by Nashville Sex Crimes Unit detectives as the suspect accused of raping, robbing and kidnapping a woman in the Belmont area Wednesday morning, according to a Nashville Metro Police press release.

Williams is at large at this time, and was last seen in surveillance footage wearing a red letterman-type jacket with white sleeves, jeans and red shoes.

The 25-year-old victim called 911 at 5:50 a.m. and reported that the suspect entered her Portland Avenue apartment armed with what is believed to be a razor blade, possibly through an unlocked door.

She reported the suspect cut her with the razor blade, sexually assaulted her multiple times, then forced her to ride with him in her vehicle.  The two first went to a SunTrust ATM on 21st Avenue, where the suspect reported she was forced to withdraw cash at 5:12 a.m.

The suspect then made the victim ride with him approximately six miles, to McIver Street, in the Woodbine area.  The suspect then left the vehicle on foot.

The Sex Crimes Unit believes Williams may be the same man the Vanderbilt University Police were already searching for, who stole a backpack from the lobby of Wilson Hall.

The suspect, who is believed to be homeless, was sleeping in the lobby of Wilson Hall before stealing the backpack. Arrest warrants have been obtained for especially aggravated rape, aggravated kidnapping and aggravated robbery, according to Belmont Campus Security.

The suspect is at large at this time, and anyone who has seen Jason Jarrell Williams is encouraged to call the Emergency Communications Center at 615-862-8600 or Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.
