How to help Hurricane Harvey victims

Hurricane Harvey has killed 21 people, caused billions in property damages and displaced thousands of Texans since hitting Corpus Christi and Houston on Friday.

Understandably, the need for support is currently very high.

The following is a comprehensive list of several different ways you can help the people of Texas who have been affected by Harvey.

The easiest donation you can make right now is through the American Red Cross. Simply text HARVEY to #90999, and you will immediately donate $10 to the American Red Cross Hurricane Harvey Relief fund. Donations are also being accepted through the Red Cross’ websitehere.

Additionally, you can text STORM to 51555 to donate to the Salvation Army, or go on their websitehere to donate.

Amazon is another easy option for those looking to help out. Amazon currently features the Red Cross’ Harvey relief wish list, which you can make purchases for. Essentials like disinfectant wipes, shovels, phone chargers and first aid kits are just a few of the things on that list.Click here for the full list.

Donations for Harvey relief are also being taken by several Tennessee-based organizations, from theCommunity Foundation of Middle Tennessee to the philanthropic apparel companyProject 615.

Several Texas-based organizations — among them, theHouston Food Bank, theFood Bank of Corpus Christi and theUnited Way of Greater Houston — are also taking donations from non-local sources. For a comprehensive list of those organizations and their needs, clickhere.

Belmont’s Zeta Alpha chapter of Phi Kappa Tau fraternitywill also be donating all proceeds from Thursday night’s Silent Disco to Harvey victims. That event is being held at 6:30 p.m. in Beaman A & B, with a $5 ticket charge at the door.
