Women’s basketball defeats Eastern Illinois, pushes to 9-0 in conference play

Women's basketball vs Eastern Illinois

The Belmont women’s basketball team continued its undefeated conference streak with a gigantic 59-37 win against Eastern Illinois at the Curb Event Center Thursday night.

Ranked No. 1 in the Ohio Valley Conference, the Bruins now have a 9-0 record in conference play.

The first half was a close battle, as both teams kept scoring close. The Bruins ended the half leading by just one point.

But the second half belonged to the Bruins, who ended the third quarter with a seven-point lead.

The Panthers tried to push through, but gained only six points in the fourth quarter, while Belmont added another 21.

The leading scorers for the Bruins — junior guard Darby Maggard with 17 points and junior forward Ellie Harmeyer with 15 points and 11 rebounds — carried the team to its ninth conference win of the season.

The Bruins will face SIUE on Saturday in the Curb Event Center at 3 p.m..
