Men’s basketball falls to Tennessee State, 64-56

The Belmont men’s basketball team couldn’t hold off Tennessee State on Thursday night, losing 64-56 in Gentry Athletic Center.

What could have been an exciting, come-from-behind finish quickly turned into disappointment for the Bruins. A couple of perfectly executed alley-oops gave Belmont the momentum they needed to take the lead, but two late turnovers in the last three minutes ended up costing them the game.

Senior Amanze Egekeze led the team with 16 points, 12 of which came from beyond the arc. Senior Austin Luke had a surprisingly slow night, scoring only two baskets and turning the ball over four times.

The Bruins failed to convert for much of the game as well, scoring on just four rebounds. This was perhaps due to the absence of sophomore center Seth Adelsperger, who played only four minutes due to a recurring lower-body injury.

Belmont will get a chance to turn momentum around when they take on Tennessee Tech in Cookeville on Saturday. The men will return home Thursday to take on Eastern Kentucky.
