Men’s basketball closes season with record-breaking win over Tennessee State

The Belmont men’s basketball team set a Curb Event Center record with 20 three-pointers in the final home game of the season, beating cross-town rivals Tennessee State 84-59 on Saturday night.

Junior Dylan Windler hit a three at the start of the game, opening the doors for Belmont’s 12 three-pointers in the first half alone. Burton Sampson, a former walk-on, would hit the three to break the Curb record with just under two minutes left in the game.

Windler had yet another double-double — his 14th of the season — scoring 21 points and 14 rebounds. Windler also completed six of his 10 three-point attempts.

Seniors Burton Sampson, Tyler Hadden, Amanze Egekeze and Austin Luke all played their final game at the Curb Event Center and all gave a fantastic final performance.

Three seniors scored in the double digits — Egekeze (16), Hadden (15) and Luke (11).

Luke also had arguably one of the best plays of the year: a buzzer beater 10 feet away from half court to end the first half.

The Bruins end the regular season 15-3 in conference play and 23-8 overall. This final win will provide the team with some much-needed momentum going into the OVC tournament.

The tournament starts on Wednesday, but Belmont, already clinching a two-round bye, will play in the semifinals on Friday.
