Men’s soccer qualifies for Southern Conference Tournament

The Belmont men’s soccer team will play in its first ever Southern Conference Tournament against Virginia Military Institute on Wednesday afternoon.

This is the Bruins’ first season in the SoCon after spending the past four seasons in the Horizon League.

Belmont finished sixth out of seven teams in the conference. The team ended its regular season with an overall record of 3-11-2 and a conference record of 1-4-1.

The Bruins’ only conference win was a 3-0 victory over VMI in the last game of the season.

The two teams will face off again in the first round of the playoffs Wednesday at 4 p.m. at E.S. Rose Park.

Going into the tournament, sophomore Matteo Bennati leads the team in three different categories — points, goals and shots on goal.

This will be the Bruins first appearance in the postseason in over 10 years.
