Women’s soccer prepares for OVC Tournament

The Belmont women’s soccer team will face Southeast Missouri as the No. 6 seed in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament Friday afternoon.

This is the third consecutive year the Bruins have earned a spot in the OVC Tournament, according to the Belmont Athletics website.

The team earned its spot in the eight-team tournament after freshman Emily Ngyuen scored a game-winning goal in double overtime on Oct. 18 against the Southeast Missouri Redhawks.

Friday’s game will not only be a tough rematch after that game, but it will be a chance for the Bruins to redeem themselves after losing to the Redhawks in the 2017 OVC Tournament quarterfinals.

Heading into the tournament, the Bruins are gearing up to battle for every game, said head coach Heather Henson.

“The top eight earn their spots in this tournament, and because of the parity in our conference and the drive on every team in our conference, it all intensifies now,” Henon said. “No matter what draw you have, you have to show up and play and every team.”

The Bruins resiliency and passion for the game will play a vital role in their success in tournament play.

Coaches and players are making sure they are focused both physically and mentally as they continue battling through their long season.

“We’re balancing that mental and physical aspect. We’re making sure that we have their minds, bodies and spirits ready,” said Henson.
