Women’s tennis coach resigns from position

After 20 seasons at Belmont, women’s tennis coach Mark Srouji announced his resignation last Friday.

Scott Corley, Belmont’s director of athletics, confirmed Srouji’s resignation in a press release from the athletic department Friday.

“It was the best decision for myself, my family and the program that I resigned as head women’s tennis coach at Belmont,” Srouji said in a statement. “I want to thank all the coaches, players, and administrators over the past two decades who made my tenure at Belmont so special.”

Srouji, one of two head coaches in the program’s history, led the tennis team during its time in the Atlantic Sun Conference, and later on in its years in the Ohio Valley Conference.

The women’s team earned the Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic Team Award for 13 years under Srouji’s leadership. The team also had five seasons with over double-digit overall wins.

“I, along with the rest of the team, appreciate all that Coach Srouji did for the women’s tennis program at Belmont over the past 20 years,” said senior tennis player Mical Johnson. “We understand his desire to spend more time with his family and wish him the best in the future.”

Corley echoed this sentiment in a statement Friday.

“I want to thank Mark for his years of service and dedication to Belmont University and our women’s tennis program,” Corley said. “We appreciate his contributions to Belmont Athletics and wish him all the best moving forward.”

Mauricio Antun, men’s tennis coach, will be the interim coach of the women’s team for the rest of the fall season.

“Even though I am not be a part of athletic program on daily basis, I will always be a Belmont Bruins fan for years to come,” Srouji said.
