Give back to the community this Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is here, leaving many students scrambling to find the perfect activity to celebrate. This Valentine’s Day, try giving back and showing some love around Belmont and the Nashville community.

Here are four ways to help out around your community this Valentine’s Day:

Help prepare a meal at St. Luke’s Community House. The Nashville food project needs help daily preparing meals for their preschool and mobile senior meals program. This is a fun task to do with a group of friends that makes a big difference in the community. You can learn more and sign up at theirwebsite.

Give a loan through Kiva. Join with thousands of others to make a loan of as little as $25 to help low-income entrepreneurs across the world. So go use that extra Valentine’s Day chocolate money to make a difference in the world. Volunteer with Belmont University Room In the Inn. Belmont partners with Room In the Inn every Wednesday and Friday night to provide food, shelter, and fellowship in the Belmont Ministry Center to women experiencing homelessness. They always need volunteers to come set up, cook meals, and come share in fellowship. Lean more and sign uphere.

Organize donations at ThriftSmart Nashville. ThriftSmart provides reasonably priced used clothing and household goods to the Nashville community. This local nonprofit thrift shop is always looking for volunteers to hang up, sort, and compile the donations they receive. You can learn more about volunteering at theirwebsite.

Show your appreciation for the workers all around you. There are so many people at and around Belmont that are working hard for you Valentine’s Day and every day. This is a perfect time of year to show your appreciation. Give a caf worker a valentine! Say thank you to the cleaning lady in your dorm! Tip your server at dinner a little extra! After all, it’s the little acts of kindness that can make a big difference.
