The College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences are all about collaboration, critical thinking and effective communication, according to its website.

This week, they’ll be putting it on full display.

The College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences is hosting the 23rd Belmont Humanities Symposium –– Babel: Origins and Ends of Language –– from Sept. 23 through 27 in the Janet Ayers Academic Center.

“This is my favorite week of the academic year every year,” said English professor and symposium leader Maggie Monteverde.

The symposium serves to represent disciplines within literature and language and their connections to other schools of thought, Monteverde said.

All lectures in the JAAC have opportunities to earn WELL Core.

Featured speaker Keith Kahn-Harris will lead the first event on Monday and participate in two panels later in the week.

Kahn-Harris is the author of “The Babel Message: A Love Letter to Language”, a central book for the curriculum in the English department.

Other featured speakers include Sebastian Rand, poet Emmy Pérez, German professor Viktorija Bilic and Ekaputra Tupamahu.

A closing reception for the art exhibition “Choice Words” is on Sept. 26 at the Leu Center for the Visual Arts.

“Choice Words” was co-curated by faculty and staff of the Watkins College of Art to communicate the impact of visual language.

The exhibit is open at normal hours at Gallery 121 of the LCAV until Sept. 27.

All academic lectures take place on the JAAC fourth floor. Movie screenings are in JAAC 1037.
