In a crosstown showdown, Belmont baseball fell to Vanderbilt University in a 13-2
run-rule loss on Tuesday night.
The game was the third annual All 4 Lou Showdown, which raises money for the Live
Like Lou Fund for ALS Research at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
The Commodores dominated the first four innings, stopping the Bruins from getting any
momentum on the field.
The Bruins failed to get a single runner on base while the Commodores continued to put
runs up on the scoreboard.
With a 2-0 Vanderbilt lead, the floodgates opened for the Commodores in the third
inning.
Belmont’s pitchers couldn’t find their control, walking four runners, hitting one batter
and committing an error on a pickoff attempt. The Bruins also committed another fielding error
in the inning.
The Commodores then hit a pop fly that the wind carried over the wall for a grand slam.
By the third out, the Commodores had a commanding 10-0 lead.
In the fifth inning, Belmont finally got a baserunner off a single by Blake Barton, who hit
it off his younger brother Hudson.
Followed by a pair of walks, Belmont was able to score off a balk.
But Vanderbilt continued to score, eventually taking a 13-1 lead off a pair of homers.
Belmont was able to score one more run before the run-rule in the bottom of the seventh
as Landon Godsey hit a home run to deep left field, his third of the season.
The Bruins move to 8-14 on the season and play their first Missouri Valley Conference
series of the season when they host Illinois State this weekend
