Bruin Beats: Delta Sigma Theta President Ameshia Forrest

The Vision has teamed up with leaders from organizations across campus to bring you weekly Spotify playlists from students and staff.

For today’s installment, President of the Tau Nu Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Ameshia Forrest shared 10 of her favorite songs with the Vision.

This playlist ranges from R&B, rap and gospel, and comes from different decades. You will find that most of them are uplifting and have a positive vibe. Others are fun and are likely to put you in a dancing mood. The rest are chill and calming. Either way, they reflect my personality and are also most likely to get me through hours of studying!

HUMBLE – Kendrick Lamar: The name of the song pretty much speaks for itself. It reminds me to love my natural beauty, appreciate where I come from and to remain humble when I reach success.

Way Back – TLC: I have always loved this 90s group and their new song still has that same fun 90s vibe to it. It is also one that I dedicate to my best friends because we go way back!

Congratulations – Post Malone Feat. Quavo: This song is inspiring and uplifts my mood whenever I am studying late at night. It makes me think about the day I will graduate and hear everyone tell me congratulations!

Unforgettable – French Montana Feat. Swae Lee: I always get in a mood to dance whenever this comes on. The unforgettable dance challenge that resulted from it is fun and hilarious.

24k Magic and That’s What I Like – Bruno Mars: Who doesn’t like these songs? They put me in a great mood!

Are you that somebody? – Aaliyah: This song is from my favorite decade, the 90s and one of my favorite artists, Aaliyah. I like its smooth vibe with a hint of attitude.

Cranes in the Sky – Solange: This song is soothing and always makes me feel better whenever I’m having a bad day.

Hold On (Change is Coming) – Sounds of Blackness: It encourages me to stay positive and focused!

Brighter Day – Kirk Franklin: Hands down one of my favorite songs ever. It encourages me and uplifts me. It has always been a go-to song when I’m down.
