Even without a football team of our own, there’s still some college football fans to be found on Belmont University campus.
As the season begins, there are a lot of opinions swirling as to which team will win the national championship this year.
Will the University of Alabama reclaim its spot as king of the college football world?
Will the University of Georgia continue its dominance in college football with a three-peat?
Is the University of Tennessee coming back for revenge after a surprisingly good season?
Belmont football fans think they have the answers.
“I think Georgia is going to steamroll again,” said Mariah Dion, an emphatic Bulldog fan, despite the uncertainty following Georgia’s star quarterback Stetson Bennett graduating.
This season, the team will be led by junior quarterback Carson Beck.
Freshman Connor McLean, an SEC fan, is rooting for the University of Alabama, but said he expects “Missouri will have the best season they’ve had in 20 years.”
The Missouri Tigers have Harrison Mevis, who was named to the Lou Groza Award Watch List for the nation’s best kicker, according to the Lou Groza Award website.
Belmont student Diego Chavarria supports a Big Ten Conference team boasting a talented core of wide receivers.
He favors The Ohio State University Buckeyes, led by Kyle McCord, but is also keeping an eye on the University of Texas Longhorns. The Longhorns are in the Big 12 but will be joining the SEC next season.
Despite being in Tennessee, few Belmont students supported the other UT.
“I don’t think Tennessee is going to be as good as they were last year,” Russell said. “That being said, I don’t think Alabama will make it to the playoffs.”
While no one knows who will win the National Championship, Belmont University will remain undefeated in football.
