Dean of students to transition to faculty position

A familiar fixture in the office of student affairs will soon be gone.

Dr. Andrew Johnston will transition from his position as dean of students and associate provost to a faculty position “coordinating and teaching courses” for the Belmont Honors program effective July 13.

Johnston has been the dean of students since 1999 and was named the associate provost in 2006.

“I’m confident that this reassignment will allow Dr. Johnston continued interaction with our students while also providing him the opportunity to enhance his passion and role with student leadership development,” said provost Dr. Thomas Burns in an email sent to the students.

According to the email, a nationwide search will begin soon for a replacement. In the meantime, Dr. Becky Spurlock, the current associate dean of students, has agreed to step up as interim dean during the search process.
