Welcome back! I hope you enjoyed your break and are returning to campus rested and ready for spring.
As I mentioned in my most recent Vision 2020 email update, a Vision Council comprised of 10 student leaders identified by SGA and Senior Leadership are meeting throughout the semester to engage in conversation about plans and actions to achieve the priorities of Vision 2020. If you’d like to hear more about the council, visit SGA’s pages on Facebook and Bruinlink or contact one of the council members:
Briana August, BSA president Kirk Bado, Residence Life Core Council chair Sean Della Croce, Bridge Builders president Evin Edens, Student Athletic Advisory Council president Jess Grommet, IFC president Katy Hansen, Panhellenic president Mikayla Holloman, DST president Alex Jeffers, SAPB president Jeanette Morelan, SGA president Jocelyn Young, Spiritual Life assistant
This correspondence is a direct result of the council’s work. The council members believe that students desire increased communication from me about what’s happening here at Belmont. Kirk Bado’s suggestion for a biweekly write-up from my desk for the Vision supports our strategic priority to “pursue transparency, open conversations and positive relationships as tools for creating a renewed sense of mutual respect and collaboration,” and I am excited for the opportunity to communicate directly and regularly with you.
This week, basketball is what’s happening in the Belmont world. Congratulations to our men’s basketball team, the 2015 OVC Champions! The Bruins are headed to Charlotte, N.C. for the NCAA tournament. Thanks to all of you who have filled the Curb Event Center and other arenas this season in support of our teams. If you can’t cheer them on in person in Charlotte this week, come out Friday afternoon to the Curb Event Center for a hometown watch party to see your No. 15 seeded Bruins take on the No. 2 seed University of Virginia Cavaliers in the NCAA tournament.
Many of you know that I love music and have been known to quote a lyric or two in most presentations, so I will continue that by also including a few lines from the song that’s playing in my head at the time of this writing.
Belmont… We “never go out of style—out of style.” -Taylor Swift
And how about what Louisa and Devin did with this!
Til next time, go Bruins!
