It’s Nice to have a Friend at Swift Society Club

Swifties at Belmont University united in a safe environment and shared their interest in the famous popstar Taylor Swift during the Swift Society Club’s kickoff last Monday.

The Swift Society started as an idea between friends in 2020, but became an official Belmont club in 2023, said the club’s event chair Lily Bennett.

“It’s cool seeing other people and their favorite aspect, their favorite songs and albums, and it's cool to be able to connect, even if we have different favorites, we can all connect in our love for Taylor Swift” said Grace Sun, the club’s music chair.

They plan to meet in McWhorter Hall 114 on the fourth Wednesday of every month at 7 p.m.

The meeting consisted of introductions from the club’s leadership and their plans for future events, including listening parties, game nights and a possible Lorax movie night for environmental wellcore, in which Swift voices the character Audrey.

However, the main activity was participating in an online quiz taken to determine which Taylor Swift album each individual’s personality aligned with.

After receiving results, everyone then split off into subgroups based on which album the quiz assigned them.

The rest of the time was spent socializing and the meeting ended with a few brief announcements.

The Club was attended by 25 students, some past members, some new.

“I liked just talking to people and finding their favorite album,” said Kate Kristene, a freshman who was at the meeting.

The club places a high emphasis on building community and bringing people together.

Swift has accumulated an immense fan base with 91 million monthly listeners on Spotify, but still unites small groups such as the BU Swift Society.

“Taylor is a really good gateway and a really safe spot because you know that those people are going to be people you’re cool with,” said Chloe Segal, Social Media Director of the club.

Students who are interested in information about the society can get more information on BruinLink or on the club’s Instagram and Geneva pages.

Students who are interested in leadership positions are also welcome at the club.

The Swift Society started the year out on a fun note, and intends to continue bringing students with shared interests together in the future.

“All these girls come together united by Taylor, glitter, sparkles, and all the funness of being a woman and celebrating girlhood,” said Segal.
