The parents of Jillian Ludwig are filing a lawsuit against the Metro Nashville Government, Belmont University and other entities.
Ludwig died last November after being shot by Shaquille Taylor in the Edgehill neighborhood about a mile from Belmont’s campus.
Matthew and Jessica Ludwig are seeking $50 million in compensation in the wrongful death lawsuit.
The lawsuit lists a number of areas where it claims the Metro Nashville government, Belmont University and a security agency hired by Belmont failed to ensure Jillian’s safety.
“Plaintiffs state that Defendant Belmont University assumed the duty of providing warnings to students including Jillian,” according to the lawsuit filed by D. Joe Griffith.
D. Joe Griffith of Hughes and Coleman is the attorney representing the lawsuit for the family.
Griffith declined to comment for this article.
In a statement to the Vision, the university said that it has not yet been served with the lawsuit and will need time to review it.
“What we can tell you is that our entire campus shares in the continued grief of Jillian’s death, and we have been and remain deeply committed to the safety of our students.”
