Kacey Musgraves' 'Deeper Well' Tour Ends in Nashville

After traveling through arenas nationwide, Kacey Musgraves parked the Deeper Well World Tour in Nashville with closing shows at Bridgestone Arena on Friday and Saturday night.

The tour was announced in February to accompany the release of Musgrave’s fifth studio album, “Deeper Well,” which was released in March 2024.

Tour support includes Nickel Creek, who has performed throughout both North American tour legs starting in September, and Lord Huron, who joined the tour in its last month in its second leg.

Nickel Creek was first to take the stage.

Their arrangements captured the heart of folk with their mix of woody acoustic guitars and a two-man string section of a bass and fiddle.

Lead vocalist and fiddler Sara Watkins carried her crew through their set, most notably on their highlight cover of Britney Spears’ “Toxic.”

Lord Huron then followed with the goal for the audience to dance, cry, or make out through the setlist.

Lead singer Tom Renaud decided to deliver his vocals through a payphone when he put down his guitar.

The band also featured singer Allison Ponthier as a backing vocalist on their collaboration “I Lied” and other Lord Huron solo tracks.

The band became most recognizable to the audience when they performed “The Night We Met,” their highest charting single to date.

From then on, the energy in the room brightened and was more welcoming for the remainder of the set.

Three hours after the doors opened, Musgraves finally took the stage when the on-screen graphic descended her body to the ground.

She was reliant on a glowing path down a hill and reascending into the sky between “Cardinal” and “Butterflies” which made for a clunky transition.

Speaking to the audience after playing those tracks was where her authenticity and humor came through and made her seem more comfortable throughout the set.

Musgraves’ witty personality would continue to show through adlibs about her gravity bong thrown in the second verse of “Deeper Well” and shouting out her ADHD during “Lonely Weekend.”

While the stage was themed around an earthy setting, Musgraves traded the hills and valleys for a more colorful lighting scheme and handwritten read-along lyrics throughout a stretch of tracks from the album “Golden Hour.”

She also stopped singing at many points just to hear the audience respond to her, which was when the arena gave her the most feedback.

It was at this point Musgraves closed out “Lonely Millionaire” and walked to a mossy b-stage with Saturn above it.

The small stage was a captivating environment for acoustic renditions of the country radio banned “Follow Your Arrow” and “The Architect.”

Two fans dressed in costumes of The Giving Tree chose “Dinner With Friends” as a surprise song while Musgraves’ dog Pepper made a guest appearance rolling on the astroturf.

Nickel Creek also returned to the stage to cover SZA’s “Kill Bill” alongside Musgraves because she believes Nashville has a thing for murder ballads.

She returned back to the main stage twirling a rainbow ribbon arm-in-arm with a bear wearing glittery antlers.

Musgraves’ final songs included a mix of “Golden Hour” and “Deeper Well” tracks including a cover of Brooks & Dunn’s “Neon Moon.”

In an effort to show love to the album “star-crossed”, she also played the record’s most twangy track, “justified.”

Afterwards, Musgraves’ band fled the scene, leaving her with only her pianist to perform “Rainbow” back on her hill, now covered in smoke.

She burrowed back into the ground as the song ended, concluding the Deeper Well World Tour.

Musgraves next performance is scheduled for March 2025 as an act in the Extra Innings Festival in Tempe, Arizona.
