In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Belmont’s Women’s Health Club hosted two events: “Donuts for Making Strides” and “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk.”

All the proceeds went directly to the Making Strides of Nashville fundraising event for the American Cancer Society towards their research in finding a cure.

The club sold donuts and breast cancer awareness bracelets to raise money and unite communities to end breast cancer on Friday

On Saturday, the club gathered in the Walk of Fame Park in downtown Nashville for a fundraiser walk to continue their advocacy work and community outreach.

Rachel Verbiar, the club's founder and president, expressed the importance of advocacy work in a community by providing an opportunity “to give ways for students to give back.”

As a new club, the group’s leadership focused a lot of preparation and coordination to boost awareness for the fundraiser.

They also reached out to Belmont’s Student Government Association, which gave funding and approval for the events to run.

Along with advocacy work and fundraising, the Women’s Health Club also hosts educational events and panels to help spread the word about the importance of women’s health, with breast cancer being a focus.

Through educating Belmont students and hosting events, the opportunities for students to build a better future in women’s health and breast cancer research are hopeful.

“Most people will be affected by breast cancer some way in their lifetime” Verbiar said.
