Men's and Women's Indoor Track Competes in MVC Championships

Belmont track and field participated in the Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championships on Sunday and Monday. 

 

The women’s team ended day two with four podium finishes, finishing in sixth place overall with 71.5 points. The men’s team finished in seventh place with 16.5 points. 

 

Senior Logan Gray in shotput and sophomore Rachel Soukup in the 300-meter were two of the four Belmont athletes to have podium finishes, setting school records in their events.  

 

Senior Grace Litzinger finished second in the mile, securing a spot on the podium and setting a personal record of 4:44.48. 

 

Sophomore Alexa Fortman finished third in the 800m with a time of 2:09.96 – just a second short of her school record. 

 

In the distance medley relay, the women’s team finished fourth with a school record time of 11:36.70. 

 

Sophomore Carlota Salgado Garcia earned second place in the pentathlon on Sunday, finishing with a school record of 3,768 points. She placed first in the long jump, second in the 800 meter and third in the high jump. 

 

Graduate student Rebekah Stucker placed third in the weight throw on Sunday with a throw of 18.64 meters. 

 

In the 60-meter preliminaries, sophomore Jayce Gray set a school record time of 6.80, qualifying him for the finals. He placed seventh in the finals with a recorded time of 6.89. 

 

Kevin Vanderkolk recorded a mile time of 4:19.99 and finished in ninth place after qualifying for finals in the preliminaries. 

 

The teams are now looking ahead to the start of the outdoor track season which will kick off at the end of March in Atlanta, Georgia at the Yellow Jacket Invite.
