Men’s Basketball finished its last home game of the season with high, fierce energy in a win against the Murray State Racers on Sunday.

Belmont started strong on offense and was able to easily put up points in the first few minutes, finding any open space in the Racers defense.

Thanks to tough defense from the Bruins, Murray State had trouble scoring in the first half, shooting only 33 percent from the field.

As the game progressed, the Bruins continued to secure a bigger lead, going into the half with a 19-point lead.

But afterwards, the energy shifted in the Curb.

The first few minutes of the half, Murray State crept up on the Bruins’ lead, scoring 11 early points.

Belmont responded by controlling the pace of the game, putting Murray State in a brief scoring drought in the middle of the second half.

The Racers became more physical in the second half, attempting to close in on the Bruins’ lead.

Continual fouls allowed Murray State to close in on what looked like a secure lead for Belmont.

With five minutes left in the game, Belmont only led by three points.

As crunch time approached, the energy became electric in the Curb Event Center from both sides of the arena.

Tyler Lundblade scored a three-pointer for Belmont, increasing its lead further.

“Preparation meets opportunity. The guy works really hard,” head coach Casey Alexander said. “He delivered for our team in a crucial moment.”

With one minute remaining, the majority of the crowd was on its feet in anticipation until Belmont secured the 70-60 win.

“I’m really proud of the way our guys have finished the season on the defensive end,”Alexander said. “We’ve strung together three good games in a row.”

The top scorers of the game were the three seniors honored for their last game in the Curb Event Center: Tyler Lundblade, Carter Whitt and Jonathan Pierre.

The Bruins are back on the court Friday, March 6 in the quarterfinals of the Missouri Valley Conference tournament in St. Louis.
