Men's Soccer Loses for the First Time at Home this Season

Belmont defends a corner kick, Bree Fabbie

Belmont men’s soccer lost its third straight game 0 - 1 to the Memphis Tigers on Tuesday.

It was the Bruins' first game under the night lights at E.S. Rose Park after six games on the road.

The only sound cutting through the Nashville air was the shouting of the teams which kept the defense on its edge and the ball zipping across the field.

Memphis had the early edge taking six shots in the first half while Belmont only had one shot on goal.

Graduate goalie Grant Calvert put up a great effort blocking every shot that came his way until one found the back of the net giving the Tigers the early lead.

The Bruins continued to play frazzled after the goal through the final minutes of the first half, receiving two yellow cards in the final six minutes.

In the second half, the Bruins came out and did a much better job maintaining control of the ball.

Belmont flipped the script in the second half as they had eight shots on the Tigers' goal.

Encircling the Tigers’ goal, the Bruins rattled off three shots on the goal though none would connect with the back of the net.

The Bruins continued to push the pace, and the Tigers tried to keep up but made some costly mistakes.

The cards were in Belmont's favor in the second half after the Tigers received two yellow cards during the final ten minutes of the game.

One was a yellow card against the Memphis bench for arguing against a call when a Belmont and Memphis player collided at midfield.

Even with the Bruins monopoly over possession in the second half, the Tigers closed out the final minute of the game.

The Bruins will return to conference play on Saturday when they continue their home stint and play Bradley at E.S. Rose Park.
