Belmont’s softball team won two of three games against Maryland in its first series at home this season.

The Bruins won the first game 3-0 thanks to another stellar performance from starting pitcher Maya Johnson.

This game marked her third complete game shutout of the season, improving her season record  to 6-1 and lowering her ERA to 0.95.

She allowed just three hits, no walks and struck out 13 Terrapins in the home-opening win.

Game two was a much rougher game for the Bruins, as they lost 8-0 to the Terrapins in 5 innings.

Maryland had five hits and took advantage of a pair of Belmont errors in the top of the first inning to lead 3-0 after the first frame.

Belmont tallied four errors in the mercy rule loss.

The Bruins advanced a runner into scoring position only once during the game.

Belmont would bounce back in the final game of the series, however, as it won 9-1 in five innings in a run-ahead rule victory of their own.

Rayna Cruickshanks pitched all five innings allowing five hits, one walk and one run to tally her fourth win of the season.

The Bruins opened the scoring with two runs in the second inning thanks to an Emily Cockrill double, a Brenna Blume single, an obstruction call and an error.

Belmont would later erupt for five runs in the fourth inning and ended the game on back-to-back bases-loaded walks drawn by Grace Gressly and Rylee Spindler.

The team improved to 12-7 on the season following the series win and is undefeated at home. The Bruins look to continue the four-game winning streak and remain perfect at home as they face Lipscomb Wednesday.
