Adorned in their finest clothes, students and faculty alike dressed in their nicest clothes for a night of honor.
The revamped Curby Awards, which celebrate leadership and excellence within Curb College, were hosted in the Vince Gill room Tuesday night.
“One of the greatest pleasures I've had as dean in the past two years has been seeing the full scope of what our student organizations do,” said Brittany Schaffer, dean of the Mike Curb College of Entertainment & Music Business.
Food was served to guests who were trickling in while student musicians Malena Kingston, Sharya Daves and JK Popstar played.
After Schaffer's brief introduction, the awards commenced, and hosts Braden Simmons and Cat Da Rocha took the stage to announce the nominees and recipients.
The Awards:
Outstanding Freshman - Emily Garver (Belmont Vision)
Outstanding Sophomore - Emma Van Meveren (Service Corps)
Best Storyteller - Braden Simmons (Belmont Vision)
Industry Impact Award - Service Corps
Campus Impact Award - Belmont Vision
Best Student Mentorship - Belmont Showcase Series
Best Project Collaboration - Bear House Management, Music Row Promo, Belmont Christian Musicians
Rising Curby Leader - Ty Wellemeyer (Belmont Vision)
Outstanding Junior - Teagan Dye (Music Row Promo)
Outstanding Senior - Della Anderson (GrammyU)
Outstanding Faculty Advisor - Dorren Robinson
Student Flourishing Award - Noah Guidos (GrammyU)
Dean’s Award - Sophie Biancalana (Music Row Promo)
Curby Award - Davaja Rivers (Service Corps)
Though the award show sends home one person with an award, the event is not meant to promote competition between groups. Instead, it's about recognizing and acknowledging the college students.
“Without our students, we wouldn't have any of our events… so you have to have events like this for the students who are in leadership roles and for their hard work and dedication,” said Nadine Waran-Perrero, Coordinator of Student Enrichment and one of the many organizers of the event.
This dedication from the faculty doesn't go unnoticed, though, as students use this support to fuel their endeavors.
“As a student, it's important to feel valued for what you are putting value into,” said Teagan Dye, co-president-elect of Music Row Promo and recipient of the Outstanding Junior award.
