Volleyball Loses Battle of the Boulevard

The team huddles before the Battle of the Boulevard Monday night, Samantha Graessle

The Belmont volleyball team lost their start of season momentum last night with a loss to Lipscomb in the Battle of the Boulevard for the second year in a row.

The Bison took the lead early in set one with a strong attack.

A big kill from the Bruins brought the energy back to the Curb and tied it up at 9-9.

Belmont got away from their groove again, losing the first set 25-19.

Set two started similarly with Lipscomb getting on the board first.

The Bruins were able to get a 4-0 run later in the set but it was not enough to catch up, dropping the second 25-19.

The third set was difficult for Belmont as they could not find their rhythm.

But the arena came back to life after the Bruins won a challenge called by Lipscomb.

In the end, Belmont could not finish it to stay in the game, falling to the Bison 25-17 in set three.

Redshirt sophomore Brenna Kauffeld led the Bruins with 8 kills while Redshirt junior Bella Mathis led the team with 5 blocks.

Belmont travels to the North Dakota Classic this weekend, playing the University of North Dakota first on Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. CT.

The game will be available to stream on ESPN+.
