Weather Conditions at Pilgrimage: The Fan Perspective

Rainfall sweeping from Hurricane Helene and drenched, muddy farm grounds didn’t keep many fans from enjoying live music at the 10th Pilgrimage Music and Cultural Festival.

“We paid for the tickets, so I’m here rain or shine, whether the artists were here or not. I think live music is live music and rain or shine, I’m here for a good time,” said Belmont University student Maddie Ingrassia.

Hurricane Helene spurred heavy rainfall last week and left some towns in Eastern Tennessee submerged in water.

While Middle Tennessee didn’t receive such catastrophic damage, rain was predicted to continue through the weekend.

The storms turned Pilgrimage’s location, Harlinsdale Farm, into a mud pit.

The festival issued several statements about the weather, all of which stated that the show would go on.

“Plan ahead for wet conditions. Current forecast calls for a chance of showers, but 100% chance of fun,” said the festival in a social media post.

While some fans said the conditions impacted their experience, many argued that the rain added a new level of fun to the festival.

“I think it’s made it laughable. We got in the car yesterday, and we all smelled like wet dogs. It’s just funny,” said Belmont student Elise Spinder.

Brisbane, Australia native Dennis Comino specifically traveled to the Nashville area to see Noah Kahan’s Pilgrimage performance.

He planned to camp out at the Midnight Sun stage’s barricade, rain or shine.

“I’ve been a fan for a long time. I like his older stuff a lot,” said Comino.

As fans danced in the rain and sang loudly during performances, the festival’s 10th year became one of the most memorable Pilgrimages yet.

“I came here last year, and this is more fun than last year because of the rain,” said Ingrassia.
