The Belmont women’s soccer team had an impressive comeback against Tennessee Tech last night, scoring three goals in eight minutes.
After a scoreless first half, both teams came out firing.
Tennessee Tech struck first in the 48th minute and left the Bruins scrambling to find the back of the net.
Belmont freshman Ava Labocki retaliated in the 78th minute with a finish off a corner kick assisted by sophomore Kennedy Bernsen.
Sophomore Kate Virtel found the back of the net next in the 85th minute with a picture-perfect strike from outside of the box, her first of the season.
Labocki scored again in the 86th minute, chipping it over the goalie to secure the win and making her the first Bruin since 2022 to score two goals in one match.
Graduate goalkeeper Sydney Jones had eight saves in the net, her new career high.
“I thought we did a great job of continuing to be patient. We didn’t look frantic. We didn’t look rushed,” said head coach Kelsey Cameron. “We just continued to do what we were doing because we felt it was successful.”
Tennessee Tech was Belmont’s last mid-week non-conference match, and the team is excited to bring this momentum into the regular season.
“I would say two wins in a row feels great, and I hope we can carry this throughout the season and into the tournament,” said Labocki.
The Bruins host Chattanooga at E.S. Rose Park this Sunday, Sept. 15 at 5 p.m. for their last non-conference game.
Belmont will be recognizing their five seniors before the match, and it will be available to stream on ESPN+.
