Belmont’s women's soccer’s season ended with a 2-0 loss to No.1 Missouri State in the Missouri Valley Conference Championship Semifinal last night.
The Bruins came out fighting as the game started as a back-and-forth matchup.
But in an early counterattack, the Bears were able to put one away for the lead.
Belmont hunkered down, desperate to make it a 1-0 game going into halftime.
But the Bears found the back of the net again in the 36th minute to make the score 2-0.
Coming out of the half, The Bruins came out energized, but could not find their momentum, leaving the final score 2-0.
While this was not the result the Bruins were hoping for, it has been an historic season for Belmont women's soccer as the Bruins secured their first postseason win since 2019 and their first MVC tournament win.
With those accomplishments, head coach Kelsey Cameron said the Bruins can be proud despite the loss.
“We’re just going to reflect on how incredible it is that just a year from last season that we are here and competing in the game like we did tonight. We’ve been talking all season about the momentum, the growth and the maturity,” said Cameron. “I’m just really proud of the team’s fight and the results and earning a No.4 seed and hosting the first round. I told them we’ve got to walk out of here with our heads held high. We've had an incredible season and an incredible group of girls.”
