Women's Soccer Suffers Battle of the Boulevard Loss

Freshman Forward Reagan Ross attacks the goal, Bree Fabbie

The women’s soccer team took a hard 3-1 loss to Lipscomb in their first battle of the Boulevard matchup since 2016.

A back-and-forth game from start to finish left both teams exhausted as they took advantage of every small opportunity.

Belmont scored first with a perfectly struck ball from the top of the box by freshman forward Reagan Ross.

The Bison answered quickly with a goal of their own just a couple minutes later.

Graduate goalkeeper Sydney Jones kept Belmont in the game with an impressive save to end the first half.

Tied 1-1 at half, both teams were ready for a competitive second half.

The intensity was high to start the second with few shots on target from either team.

The Bruins held strong as the Bison stretched the field and the Belmont backline.

In the 55th minute, Lipscomb found the net again, leaving the Bruins with a need to rally.

Belmont made their way up the field and had a series of corner kick opportunities but could not finish the job.

An unlucky deflection off a Belmont defender gave the Bison another goal and the lead they wanted and needed to take the win.

While the result was not what the Bruins were hoping for, head coach Kelsey Cameron was proud of the effort her team played with for all 90 minutes and is excited to look ahead.

“We’ve got a great mixture of new players and older players that have great experience, so that gives us a lot of versatility to bring different types of people in depending on the game. But I thought everyone just played their hearts out and we’re really proud,” said Cameron.

The Bruins have a couple days to rest up before they travel to Marshall this Sunday, Sept. 1.

Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. and will be available to stream on ESPN+.
